Introduction
Klagenfurt is the capital Austria's province Carinthia. With the foundation of the city - according to the legend - a vicious tapeworm first had to be overcome. The fountain in the center is a reminder of that (the Lindwurmbrunnen). The old city center is fully restored (Klagenfurt won different prizes for the preservation of its cultural heritage). One of the biggest attractions of the city is the bathing beach at the Wörthersee, followed by the Euro park where there are various attractions.

Klagenfurt has more than 90,000 inhabitants.
Location
The city lies in the south of Austria, on the Glad river and on the east side of the Wörthersee. Klagenfurt is located at a 446 meters in a beautiful green setting, bordered on the south by the Karawanken mountains, the natural border between Austria and Slovenia.
Economy
Tourism plays an important role in the Klagenfurt's economy. Thereafter is some light industry and the city has developed into a center for information and communication technology. An example is the Technology park, which is now associated with the university of Klagenfurt.
Airports
Klagenfurt has its own airport, only three kilometers from the city. Besides Austrian Airlines, this airport is especially used by budget airlines. Airport Klagenfurt is easily reachable by rental car: the exit to the airport is clearly signposted along highway A2. The road connects Klagenfurt with Graz and the airports of this city can be an alternative.
Public transportation
The city has a good bus network, with which you can reach all interesting places in the city. Klagenfurt is not a big city and all the important attractions can easily be seen by foot. Furthermore, Klagenfurt has excellent train connections with other cities in Austria, and to Italy, Slovenia and Germany.
Traffic and parking
In and around the center of Klagenfurt there are many parking garages and spaces. These are clearly indicated. If you want to park your rental car for free, there are P+R sites on the east and west sides of the city. You can be taken to the center with a shuttle bus. The center of the city can be very busy, especially in the summer months. You should avoid driving during rush hour.
Hotels
Klagenfurt has a wide variety of hotels and guest houses. One of the best options is AllYouNeed Hotel, which incidentally is only open during the summer months (July 1 to September 30). Klagenfurt is a popular destination and in the summer months it is suggested to book your hotel room in advance. There is a youth hostel at the university.
