Fontainebleau is a town just south of Paris mainly known for the vast surrounding forests and the historical Château de Fontainebleau. Higher, international education is also concentrated in this town.

Fontainebleau is located centrally in the north of France, over 55 kilometers south of Paris in woody surroundings. The forests are the main attraction: large numbers of Parisians visit Fontainebleau during the weekend.
Tourism and education are the two pillars of local economy. The forests surrounding Fontainebleau attract millions of day visitors annually, especially from Paris. It's the home of the renowned elite school INSEAD with students from all over the world, and other ‘grandes écoles’, including the one for computer sciences and telecommunication (École supérieure d'ingénieurs en informatique et génie des télécommunications - ESIGETEL).
The nearest large airport is Aéroport Paris-Orly, about 44 kilometers from the center. It's easily reachable by rental car via freeway A6.
From the train station Fontainebleau-Avon, east of the city center, a bus runs to the castle. Travel time amounts to about 15 minutes. There are also buses to towns in the vicinity and to Paris. Bear in mind that public bus transport in Fontainebleau stops at 8 p.m. Trains run from the train station to the Gare de Lyon in Paris.
Fontainebleau is a small town with only one main street, the Rue Grande, which runs from the castle to the other side of town. In the center lies the Place de Napoléon Bonaparte. On both sides of the Rue Grande you'll find shops, cafés and restaurants. You can park your rental car near the castle.
