Berlin Tegel Airport in a nutshell

The German capital Berlin has three airports: Tegel Airport, Schoenefeld Airport and the smaller Tempelhof Airport. In 2011 Schönfeld Airport will be the only airport left, and it will be renamed Hauptstadt-Airport Berlin-Brandenburg International (BBI). Thus far, the number of passengers at Tegel Airport is growing steadily. The airport has a hexagonal terminal, which means that passengers do not have to walk very far.

There is a direct train/metro connection to the airport. Buses leave every 10 minutes to bring people to the Central Station. The airport is located eight kilometres to the north-west of Berlin centre. The route to and from the airport is clearly indicated.

There are hotels at the airport. There is a mediocre supply of shops and there are four (snack) bars and five restaurants. Business facilities are available in the Airport Service Centre, as well as in the VIP Lounge in the central hall. In addition, the airport houses banks, ATM's, exchange offices and a post office, all of them in the central hall. Throughout the terminal, wireless Internet is available.

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
