Parikia is the capital of the Greek island of Paros. It's an attractive town with narrow cobbled roads, old churches and houses in the typical Greek colors white and blue. It's a popular holiday destination with an exuberant nightlife.
The town has approximately 4500 inhabitants.
Parikia is located on the west coast of Paros, one of the islands of the so-called Cyclades. It's the second-largest island of the Cyclades, after neighboring island Naxos which lies east of Paros. The fishing village Naoussa, now a tourist resort, lies on the north coast of Paros.
Paros' marble used to be much sought after among sculptors and an important export product. Nowadays tourism forms the main source of income for Paros and the capital Parikia. The harbor plays an important role in transporting passengers and goods between the islands in the southern part of the Aegean Sea.
Paros Airport is situated 9 kilometers southwest of the city center, near Alyki. It's easily reachable by rental car and the way is clearly signposted.
Buses run between Parikia and Naoussa and other places on the island, but the schedule isn't always reliable. From the harbor ferries leave for other Greek islands, including Naxos, Ios, Santorini and Mykonos, and to Piraeus, the port of the Greek capital Athens.
The old city consists of narrow streets and is best explored by foot. More than that, most streets are inaccessible for cars. There are sufficient parking facilities around the center. A rental car is an ideal means of transportation to explore the rest of Paros.
Paros is a popular holiday island and has therefore no shortage of accommodation. Besides in the capital, you'll find hotels and holiday resorts along the beaches: Pounda, Logaras, Piso Livadi, Naoussa, Agia Irini and Chrissí Aktí on the east coast. In summer months the island is busy and if you want to visit Paros those months we advise booking your hotel room well in advance.
