Lamezia Terme is a city in the Italian region of Calabria. The municipality was created in 1968 by the merger of three communes, of which Nicastro was the greatest one. The city lies close to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The coast has wonderful sand beaches. Furthermore, you can find relics from the (ancient) Romans and Greeks in the area.
The city has almost 75,000 inhabitants.
Lamezia Terme is centrally located in Calabria, the southern province that represents the toe of the Italian ‘boot’. The Tyrrhenian Sea is situated to the west of the city and well over 70 kilometers away, lies the Ionian Sea side. Agriculture plays an important part in the economy. Olives are cultivated in great quantities and they are partly used for the production of premium quality olive oil. Grapes also are being cultivated (partly for wine production), as well as figs and citrus fruits, the vineyards are generally small and medium-sized. Lamezia is famous for its dry red wine, characterized by the local Nerello Mascales grape.
