Introduction

Frederikshavn is located in the north of Denmark's east coast, on the Kattegat, the strait that divides the Danish mainland from Sweden. The landscape directly north and south of town is flat, but driving west you'll cross the hills of Jutland.

Economy

The town has an important ferry port, with connections to Norway and Sweden. Fishing and processing of the fish also form important sources of income. In Denmark 'frederikshavner' denotes a particular quality plaice. The Danish marine also has a base here. The beaches draw many tourists every year. Frederikshavn profiles itself as eco city; in 2015 the entire city is to rely exclusively on renewable energy. This way the city wants to demonstrate the possibilities of (Danish) energy technology.

Airports

The nearest international airport is Aalborg Airport, over 65 kilometers southwest of Frederikshavn. Aalborg Airport is easily reachable by rental car via freeway E-45.

Public Transport

Frederikshavn has excellent public city bus transport. There are also connections from the bus station in front of the train station to for example Skagen, Sæby, Øster Vrå, Sindal and Hirtshals.

Traffic and Parking
