Up to 1864, Flensburg belonged to Denmark. There is still a significant Danish minority in the city. Earlier, Flensburg was a thriving merchant city, to which many merchant houses still testify. Furthermore, the local beer, Flensburger Pilsener (shortly named Flens), is famous. It is bottled in swing top bottles, and you can visit the brewery for free. The city also has many tax-free shops, focused primarily at the northern neighbors who can buy alcohol in bulk for cheaper than in Denmark.
Flensburg has 90,000 inhabitants. The Danish minority has their own schools, churches and cultural associations.

The economy still relies on the border trading between Germany and Denmark. Some Danish companies have an office in Flensburg to evade the (higher) taxes in Denmark. Furthermore, the city still focuses more on technology. In Flensburg-Rude there is a technology center where young entrepreneurs can develop innovative plans.

Flensburg is not a busy city and you can drive around comfortably. Also finding a parking space for your car is no problem.
