Introduction

Hahn is a hamlet in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in the German Rhineland-Palatinate state. It's mainly known for the former military airport which is now used by low-cost airlines.

Population

The village has less than 200 inhabitants.

Location

Hahn is located in the west of Germany, on the Hunsrück hills which form the watershed between the Nahe and Moselle rivers.

Economy

The village's economy revolves around the airport. When the Americans left the military airport, it was a heavy blow to the inhabitants of Hahn. Although there are sometimes complaints about the noise nuisance of planes taking off or landing, Hahn is quite pleased with the increased activity at the airport.

Airports

The airport is referred to as Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, although Frankfurt is situated at 120 kilometers east of the airport. The airport is easily reachable by rental car; it's close to highway A-61 (exit Rheinböllen). The route to the airport is clearly signposted.

Public Transport

In Hahn itself there's no public transport. There are regional busses from the airport to cities in the vicinity (among others to Frankfurt, Cologne, Mainz and Trier).

Traffic and Parking

A rental car is an ideal means of transportation to discover the surroundings of Hahn (Rheinland en de Hunsrück). You drive on rural roads through a pretty landscape. Parking is no problem.

 What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
