Location information for Antimachia
Introduction
Antimachia is mainly known as the location of the international airport of the Greek island Kos. Few people know it's an extremely idyllic town with for example an impressive fort. It was built in the fifteenth century by the Knights of St. John who originated from several Western European countries and formed a Christian bastion against the 'pagan' East.
Population
The town has approximately 2200 inhabitants.
Location
Antimachia is located in the middle of the island, about 25 kilometers southwest of Kos Town.
Economy
Antimachia's inhabitants mainly live of tourism with the airport being the main employer. As on the rest of the island, there's a lot of farming, mainly olives, almonds and citrus fruit.
Airports
Antimachia is situated directly next to the international airport of Kos, Hippocrates Airport. The airport is easily reachable by rental car. The airport entrance is on the southwest side of town, along the island's main road, from Kos Town to Kefalou.
Public Transport
There are only regional buses running between the various towns and villages on Kos. In all fairness we need to say that these buses run very irregularly and services are extremely poor during weekends and on public holidays.
Traffic and Parking
Antimachia is a small village and you'll have no trouble finding your way around. You can also easily find a parking place for your rental car. Outside Kos' main road you need to be cautious of cattle or people on the road. Drive carefully! If an approaching car flashes his lights, he wants to overtake. He'll expect you to give him space!
Hotels
There are no possibilities to stay over in Antimachia, unless you find a local wanting to rent out a room. Hotels can be found on the coast, near the beaches of Kardamena southeast of Antimachia or near the beach of Mastichari northwest of town.
