This rental company are NOT located in the terminal, despite EasyTerra indicating that they are. This was a key reason why we decided to book with the company, so we feel duped by the website. The information was insufficient, and/or insufficiently clear to allow us to reach the rental location comfortably.

Introduction

Civitavecchia is an Italian port. The city is mainly known for the large number of cruise ships that moor and the many ferry connections to among others Sardinia, Sicily, Barcelona, Tunisia and the French Toulon. At the harbor you'll find the impressive Forte Michelangelo. There are also wide sandy beaches north of the city.

The city has over 50,000 inhabitants.

Civitavecchia is located in the central Italian region Lazio, at the Tyrrhenian Sea. Rome is located eighty kilometers southeast of Civitavecchia.

Economy

The harbor is of major importance for the local economy. It's not so much a commercial port but a mooring place for cruise ships and a ferry port for ferry connections to Sardinia, Sicily, Malta, Barcelona, Toulon and even the North African Tunis. Fishing still plays a role in local economy, but is of minor importance.

Airports

There are no airports near Civitavecchia. The Roman airport Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci Airport) is the nearest. This airport is easily reachable from Civitavecchia via highway A-12 (Autostrada Azzurra).

Public Transport

Civitavecchia has good public city transport. The bus schedule is restricted during weekends though.

Traffic and Parking

It's not difficult to find your way around in Civitavecchia. Finding a parking space for your rental car is also hardly a problem. Near the ferry port there's a large parking lot, but don't leave any valuables in your car!

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
