Ibiza Town is the capital of the Spanish Balearic Island of the same name. The official Catalan name is Eivissa and the local population therefore calls the city Vila d'Eivissa or simply Vila. The city consists of two parts: the old, historic center that is positioned higher up (Dalt Vila, literally: Upper Town) and a modern part that is called Eixample. Some of the city attractions are the cathedral dating from the fourteenth century (Santa Maria d'Eivissa) and the Punic necropolis Puig des Molins. Ibiza Town is however mainly known for the exuberant nightlife.
The city has over 50,000 inhabitants.
Ibiza City is located on the south side of the island Ibiza.
Agriculture used to play a significant role on Ibiza, but nowadays the economy practically exclusively revolves around tourism. Ibiza is known as the party island and is flooded every year with tourists who look to be entertained in the many discos and nightclubs to sleep it off during the day on one of the beaches.
Ibiza Airport is situated seven kilometers southwest of the capital. The airport is easily reachable; there is only one road to the airport, the PM-801. From the PM-803 (Ibiza-San José) you take the exit at kilometer 4.
Both in Ibiza Town and to other destinations on the island public transport is good. There are several bus companies. They are all listed in the schedule that is available for free from the Tourist Office. Regional busses leave from the new bus station Sa Colomina in Ibiza Town.
In the center of Ibiza Town you need to pay for street parking. Especially in high season it's difficult to find a free parking space. You can then better park your rental car in one of the parking garages in and around the city center.
There is no shortage of accommodation in Ibiza Town. You can find cheap guesthouses, but also five star hotels (like the Grand Hotel), and everything in between. Ibiza is an extremely popular holiday destination and especially during summer months it's recommended to book your hotel room well in advance.
