Location information for Valladolid

Introduction

Valladolid is located where the Rio Esgueva and the Rio Pisuerga come together. In the past, this city was the center of the Spanish Renaissance. Today, it is a modern city with a vibrant and down-to-earth character.

In terms of the number of inhabitants, Valladolid is the eleventh largest city in Spain. The city has about 320,000 inhabitants. Because of the relatively large number of students, the city has a modern look and feel.

Location

Valladolid is located some 150 kilometers to the north-north-west of Madrid, which is located roughly in the center of Spain. Valladolid is located some 100 kilometers from the border with Portugal.

Economy

To begin with, the city's economy partly depends on its many students. Universities are school provide jobs to teachers and assorted staff members. The students also have a positive impact on the city's nightlife, which is known for its party atmosphere. In addition to this source of income, the economy of Valladolid depends to a large extent on its industry. Trade is also very important, for instance in the wine that is produced near Valladolid. On top of all this, Valladolid is the capital of the Autonomia de Castilla y Leon, a (semi) autonomous region of Spain. Finally, the city also attracts tourists. The modernization and industrialization have not wiped out the legacy of the past.

Airports

Valladolid has one airport: Valladolid Airport, which is located about 12 kilometers to the north-west of the city. The airport process domestic as well as European flights. The following carriers, as well as others, use the airport: Air France, Air Nostrum, Iberia, Portugalia and Ryanair.

Public transport

If you did not rent a car, you will still be able to move around this city. There are regular bus services to and from Madrid. The journey takes only 2 hours and 15 minutes. Of course, you can also take the bus to other cities. Valladolid has an important railway hub, which makes it easy to travel by train to other Spanish cities. In the city itself, there is a bus company that will take you to many places in the city. There is also a bus service between the airport and the city. A one-way ticket costs about one euro. If you decide to take a taxi, it will cost around € 15.

Traffic and Parking

In Valladolid itself there is nothing special to report about the traffic and parking situation. There is no real peak season, during the summer there is more tourism, but less commerce and student activity. Winters can be pretty harsh, which means that it can be slippery to drive.

Hotels

Generally speaking it is not hard to find a hotel room in Valladolid. However, we do recommend booking in advance, because sometimes hotel rooms may be scarce due to certain (commercial) events.
